Buying a piano can be a tough decision between choocing 'new' one or a 'used' one. The choice of an, old, cheap and faulty used piano, and yet claimed to be usableby 'not-so-well-informed' parents and music teachers, may at first though as a money saving option, turning out to be disastrous event, leading to the students' failure in music education and finally giving up music totally.
As reported by 'The Blue Book of Piano' from US, about 80% of the beginners who practice with used piano drop their music lesson within six months. The high percentage of drop out in piano studies was due to worn out and unresponsive piano that caused frustration for musically sensitive pupils. Psychologically topping the list was the lack of pride, and the feeling of 'no regret' to drop music due to an inferior piano which can be thought of throwing off anytime.
Wouldn't we consider both parents and students loose out completely?
Most of the used pianos in Malaysia are beyond the lifespan of a good piano (at least 25 years above) and some of the original parts were replaced by non-original parts of interior qualilty. Unfortunately , these pianos are not properly recondition at al because of the very high cost involved. You will never get a good used piano that cost you only few thousand ringgit. Please reconsider before you decide to buy a used piano.
"It is unwised to pay too much, but it's more unwise to pay too little. When you pay too much you loose little money. When you pay too little, you sometimes lose everything, because the thing you bought was incapable of doing the thing you bought it to do." This was said by John Ruskin (1819-1900) who was a critic, essayist and reformer.

IMPORTANT FACTS TO KNOW
Sticky key is a very common phenomenon whereby the keys do not bounce up or bounce up slowly when released.
Sticky key is caused by the high moisture content in the air. High humidity level in Malaysia (80% above) may cause expansion of the wooden parts in piano and it will cause sticky key.
'Sticky key' is not a manufacturing fault. It is not covered under the piano warranty. It can be prevented or avoided if you take enough precaution measures.
Some tuning instability should be anticipated during the first year because of the elesticity of the piano wire. Therefore, it is normal for a new piano to be tuned 4 times during the first year.
The piano with no services at all for a long period (more than one year) will not be coveres under the piano warranty.
Problems or damages of the piano caused by the service from an unauthorized piano technician shall not be covered under the piano warranty.
Warranty card must be presented to YC MUSIC (Malaysia) SDN BHD for any service or repairing under the piano factory warranty. An administration fee will be charged for customer who claims without warranty card.
